Women are awesome

At the risk of offending a whole slew of people, every once in a while it is important to point out why women are awesome. To be clear for my brothers out there, this is not a “why women are better than men” list, but rather a list that simply outlines why women are awesome.  Not everyone (male or female) will necessarily agree with this list, but agreement is not the point. Celebrating women is the point, and it should be done more often.
  1. Get pregnant: Clearly the absolute and most undeniably awesome aspect of being of woman is the ability to get pregnant and keep our species going. There is no way a man can even conceive (no pun intended) of both how incredible and challenging this is. As far as I am concerned, the list could stop here, but allow me to continue. 
  2. Make food: Part of the pregnancy point, women can actually make food via breast milk that allows their baby to not only survive, but thrive. We continue to learn more about the benefits of breast milk and its importance to immune system development, digestive health, and more. 
  3. Wear skirts: Having worn a kilt once (I am Scottish after all), I can say a little “freedom” goes a long way. That being said, you won’t soon see men sporting kilts or skirts any time soon. As men, we have too much misplaced masculine pride to risk being maligned by others whose self-esteem is rooted in putting others down for sport. 
  4. Be a cougar: For some reason, older women can freely interact with younger men romantically, while the reverse is seen as “creepy”. Unless you are Hugh Heffner with a bevy of playmates, women have a socially upper hand here. 
  5. Multitasking: It has been proven scientifically that women are better at multitasking than men. This has to do with differences in neuroanatomy related to, in all likelihood, an evolutionary requirement of raising multiple children in sometimes hostile environments. 
  6. Be emotional: While sensitivity in men seems to be more socially acceptable, there remains a disdain for emotional men and what that mean to their masculinity. The ability for a woman to share her emotions with whomever she needs to is actually a more highly developed form of communication, creating deeper bonds and stronger friendships. 
  7. Live longer: Men, as a result of poor lifestyle choices, still fall behind women in terms of how long they live. Women will outlive their male counterparts most of the time. 
  8. Multiple orgasms: No list on why women are awesome would be complete without this one. While on the surface it might not be that important, consider how this might have encouraged population growth over the centuries if it were not the case. We might still be a singular tribe in Africa rubbing sticks together.
While this list could continue, it is clear that while women are not better than men (and vice versa), women are awesome and should be celebrated as such. Whatever final vestiges of misogynistic behavior exists the world over, we should collectively celebrate our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, girlfriends, wives, and female friends and co-workers every chance we get.

Who do you want to be?

As we wind down the summer and move into the colder months of the year, we watch as leaves fall and what was once green and lush appears to wither and die.   In contrast to the natural energy of the spring and summer seasons, fall can be challenging as we get less sunlight and the temperatures steadily drop. However, fall is not a time of death as much as a time of restoration. Much like the hours spent sleeping in our 24-hour day; fall and winter are like sleep for the seasons.
